Born in Bali in 1972, Wayan Kasta comes from a family of wood carvers. However he did not take up the craft full time until 1999. At the age of 12 he began studying painting in traditional, modern and abstract styles. But after an accident made it difficult for him to concentrate on brush strokes and colors, he turned to carving.
Kasta's designs take their themes mostly from animals and every single movement of their natural life. He employs suar, crocodile and hibiscus wood for his pieces. "I hope my artworks will be accepted by the art community and will make a useful contribution," he says.
