Recently, a woman searching sperm donors online and trying a matchmaker to put their on virtual dates: 42, unmarried, Dumbo.

time ONE

7:30 a.m.

I’m trying to keep just as much program as before, so as that implies getting up and working . The majority of mornings that is a three-mile run. I’m sure everybody dislikes the joggers right now, but I wear a mask and go early adequate that We scarcely see someone else. I run down to Red Hook and straight back. We listen to ’90s hip-hop. We you will need to feel normal.

9:00 a.m.

I’m within my computer system operating feverishly, and I also’ll be operating at the performance until 7 p.m. I began my own contacting company 10 years back. We have big customers and also make decent money. So far I haven’t had to lay off some of my personal six employees. We’re active.

2:00 p.m.

We just take a few minutes from my home office getting a call with a matchmaker I chose last year. This lady has myself taking place a FaceTime first time tonight with a man called Ted. It is my basic “date” because pandemic. She really wants to give me somewhat info. Ted is divorced, a finance guy, bald but good looking, short but sexy. This is apparently the mildew and mold for the majority from the set-ups from this lady. This can be my personal next. I stay open-minded. I don’t care and attention just what a man appears like. I’m trying to find a person that is able to subside and a genuinely great individual.

7:00 p.m.

We make my self are amiss so that i will incomparable this FaceTime. We afin de some drink and set in just a little makeup products.

8:30 p.m.

He is great, amusing, smart, and lovely. This will be fun. We state good-night after one hour in the telephone and then he says he would love to do it again the next day night. I’m practically beaming when I put down the telephone.

DAY a couple

7:30 a.m.

There is a text from the matchmaker. Ted actually liked you but the guy made a decision to just take situations further with some other person he’s casually witnessing. Onward! I have upset for perhaps three moments. I accumulated a tolerance with this things. Dating is really, very difficult when you are 42 and residing in ny and want kids and stability. If I wanted to take a polyamorous commitment, or something like that purely intimate, I’d never be depressed. But I’m looking the standard thing and that is just hard to find inside my age groups.

10:00 a.m.

I-go hard at your workplace as to not consider Ted. Fairly, not considercarefully what I did incorrect on our FaceTime go out. Obviously the guy only wasn’t into me personally …

8:30 p.m.

We have a Zoom thing with my closest girlfriends. Most people are hitched with children except myself. My friends tend to be cool. They understand We struggle. They don’t allow weird. They do not pretend my entire life surpasses theirs because condescending, “Ugh If only i possibly could be solitary!” method. Nobody wants getting solitary at 42.

10:00 p.m.

We liked the Zoom program. My friends make myself chuckle.  And even though There isn’t young ones or a husband, I like hearing their unique tales. At this point, I am not a bitter individual.

DAY THREE

12:00 p.m.

The matchmaker clearly seems terrible towards Ted thing thus she actually is on top of the woman video game giving me personally choices. The only man I tell this lady I am not contemplating conference is the one that seriously does not want to have children. I’m not throwing away one minute of my personal time with that. We froze my personal eggs in years past and will have young ones some way.

3:00 p.m.

We workout a FaceTime time with another finance guy, Matthew, this evening. The guy seems fantastic in some recoverable format. We’ll see. It’s hard to keep up pleasure about any one of this.

8:30 p.m.

Matthew is quite wonderful. They have this thing that I seen in guys who may have already been also single for too long in ny because I think the guy sort of hates women. There is anger there, as though the guy is like so many women have actually wronged him. Having said that, it is a great adequate cam and I’d have a differnt one in the foreseeable future if he is game. Let us see what the matchmaker states.

DAY FOUR

8:00 a.m.

Matthew would want to “meet” again. Cool. Whichever.

9:00 a.m.

My buddy provided me with the woman code for a sperm bank very sometimes, I browse the donors. They are all really … higher end? I’m not sure suitable word. Centered on checking out some of their profiles, they are all well-educated, over six-feet high, and “with each other” appearing. We have many pals who may have had children through semen donors and I actually appreciate them; it simply never is like the “right” move for my situation. Being an individual mom by option wouldn’t create myself pleased. Possibly I’m not ready.

12:30 p.m.

Virtual dermatology appointment. What an unusual time it is!

8:00 p.m.

We order in Thai as well as catch-up on Bravo.

time FIVE

8:00 a.m.

I am FaceTiming using my moms and dads who happen to live in Boston. My cousin’s children keep them extremely busy and delighted. I do believe they bother about me, while they’d never let me know that. They primarily merely compliment me with just how amazing I’m doing with work. They may be type people and that I love all of them considerably. We only wish I’d kids who does at some point know all of them. I’m sure it isn’t really far too late, but it is this collection of believing that helps make me really sad.

3:00 p.m.

My last significant connection finished about six in years past. We had been collectively for five decades. The guy cheated on myself with a work associate. It actually was a one-time thing, allegedly. The guy regretted it, and begged for forgiveness, but i really couldn’t forgive him. I imagined making him ended up being my personal sole option at the time. You are aware, “once a cheater, constantly a cheater!” We enjoyed him really though — and frequently question easily requires remained with him and worked it. We do not understand what he is to, but I do know he is married with a brand new child. It’s hard to consider it — and so I cannot.

8:00 p.m.

I’ve another FaceTime thing with Matthew tonight. I make me appear rather, that is more personally compared to him.

9:00 p.m.

We’re on the phone call. I am not sure. This guy is underwhelming. He dislikes their job. He is kinda whiny and then he believes he’s becoming an amusing, neurotic unique Yorker nevertheless results in similar to he’s a huge bummer are about. Its like, has it visited this? A boring, resentful guy who i cannot hold off to avoid talking-to? Nah. I won’t have another go out with him.

time SIX

9:00 a.m.

Commercially it’s the weekend, but that doesn’t mean any such thing any longer.

2:00 p.m.

I’ve chose to cook anything, and so I make do-it-yourself cupcakes. We leave many for my beautiful neighbors next-door that happen to be actually battling homeschooling their unique young ones. When we fall them down, we understand they may be probably going to place all my cupcakes out, because germs.  Oh well. Ideally are going to pleased I thought ones.

9:00 p.m.

We register to a Zoom comedy tv series. It is not funny. None for this is amusing. We turn fully off my lights and get to sleep.

time SEVEN

8:00 p.m.

The matchmaker texted last night that Matthew is truly feeling me. We make sure he understands I’m not curious, but maintain ‘em coming. I am not browsing surrender, as far as I dislike this all.

11:00 p.m.

I go on a disguised jog and feel sad and stressed and captured . Some days are more difficult than the others. These days is actually dark for my situation. It Is Going To go …

8:00 p.m.

I rejoined Tinder tonight. This has been a year since I have lost my time with internet dating.  However, if i am trapped house for several months upon months, I’m going to need over the matchmaker to keep my online dating life alive. It really is as disappointing since it is exciting for during the Tinder video game once more. Basically’m being truthful, it will make me feel types of sick. But i must keep finding

him.

He’s available to you. Somewhere.

According to Agung Rai

“The concept of taksu is important to the Balinese, in fact to any artist. I do not think one can simply plan to paint a beautiful painting, a perfect painting.”

The issue of taksu is also one of honesty, for the artist and the viewer. An artist will follow his heart or instinct, and will not care what other people think. A painting that has a magic does not need to be elaborated upon, the painting alone speaks.

A work of art that is difficult to describe in words has to be seen with the eyes and a heart that is open and not influenced by the name of the painter. In this honesty, there is a purity in the connection between the viewer and the viewed.

As a through discussion of Balinese and Indonesian arts is beyond the scope of this catalogue, the reader is referred to the books listed in the bibliography. The following descriptions of painters styles are intended as a brief introduction to the paintings in the catalogue, which were selected using several criteria. Each is what Agung Rai considers to be an exceptional work by a particular artist, is a singular example of a given period, school or style, and contributes to a broader understanding of the development of Balinese and Indonesian paintng. The Pita Maha artist society was established in 1936 by Cokorda Gde Agung Sukawati, a royal patron of the arts in Ubud, and two European artists, the Dutch painter Rudolf Bonnet, and Walter Spies, a German. The society’s stated purpose was to support artists and craftsmen work in various media and style, who were encouraged to experiment with Western materials and theories of anatomy, and perspective.
The society sought to ensure high quality works from its members, and exhibitions of the finest works were held in Indonesia and abroad. The society ceased to be active after the onset of World War II. Paintings by several Pita Maha members are included in the catalogue, among them; Ida Bagus Made noted especially for his paintings of Balinese religious and mystical themes; and Anak Agung Gde Raka Turas, whose underwater seascapes have been an inspiration for many younger painters.

Painters from the village of Batuan, south of Ubud, have been known since the 1930s for their dense, immensely detailed paintings of Balinese ceremonies, daily life, and increasingly, “modern” Bali. In the past the artists used tempera paints; since the introduction of Western artists materials, watercolors and acrylics have become popular. The paintings are produced by applying many thin layers of paint to a shaded ink drawing. The palette tends to be dark, and the composition crowded, with innumerable details and a somewhat flattened perspective. Batuan painters represented in the catalogue are Ida Bagus Widja, whose paintings of Balinese scenes encompass the sacred as well as the mundane; and I Wayan Bendi whose paintings of the collision of Balinese and Western cultures abound in entertaining, sharply observed vignettes.

In the early 1960s,Arie Smit, a Dutch-born painter, began inviting he children of Penestanan, Ubud, to come and experiment with bright oil paints in his Ubud studio. The eventually developed the Young Artists style, distinguished by the used of brilliant colors, a graphic quality in which shadow and perspective play little part, and focus on scenes and activities from every day life in Bali. I Ketut Tagen is the only Young Artist in the catalogue; he explores new ways of rendering scenes of Balinese life while remaining grounded in the Young Artists strong sense of color and design.

The painters called “academic artists” from Bali and other parts of Indonesia are, in fact, a diverse group almost all of whom share the experience of having received training at Indonesian or foreign institutes of fine arts. A number of artists who come of age before Indonesian independence was declared in 1945 never had formal instruction at art academies, but studied painting on their own. Many of them eventually become instructors at Indonesian institutions. A number of younger academic artists in the catalogue studied with the older painters whose work appears here as well. In Bali the role of the art academy is relatively minor, while in Java academic paintings is more highly developed than any indigenous or traditional styles. The academic painters have mastered Western techniques, and have studied the different modern art movements in the West; their works is often influenced by surrealism, pointillism, cubism, or abstract expressionism. Painters in Indonesia are trying to establish a clear nation of what “modern Indonesian art” is, and turn to Indonesian cultural themes for subject matter. The range of styles is extensive Among the artists are Affandi, a West Javanese whose expressionistic renderings of Balinese scenes are internationally known; Dullah, a Central Javanese recognized for his realist paintings; Nyoman Gunarsa, a Balinese who creates distinctively Balinese expressionist paintings with traditional shadow puppet motifs; Made Wianta, whose abstract pointillism sets him apart from other Indonesian painters.

Since the late 1920s, Bali has attracted Western artists as short and long term residents. Most were formally trained at European academies, and their paintings reflect many Western artistic traditions. Some of these artists have played instrumental roles in the development of Balinese painting over the years, through their support and encouragement of local artist. The contributions of Rudolf Bonnet and Arie Smit have already been mentioned. Among other European artists whose particular visions of Bali continue to be admired are Willem Gerrad Hofker, whose paintings of Balinese in traditional dress are skillfully rendered studies of drapery, light and shadow; Carel Lodewijk Dake, Jr., whose moody paintings of temples capture the atmosphere of Balinese sacred spaces; and Adrien Jean Le Mayeur, known for his languid portraits of Balinese women.

Agung Rai feels that

Art is very private matter. It depends on what is displayed, and the spiritual connection between the work and the person looking at it. People have their own opinions, they may or may not agree with my perceptions.

He would like to encourage visitors to learn about Balinese and Indonesian art, ant to allow themselves to establish the “purity in the connection” that he describes. He hopes that his collection will de considered a resource to be actively studied, rather than simply passively appreciated, and that it will be enjoyed by artists, scholars, visitors, students, and schoolchildren from Indonesia as well as from abroad.
